"Embrace Equity"
The motto for this year’s International Women's Day.
This theme highlights a key difference between equality and equity, with the former being a mere focus on giving everyone the same thing, but the latter focused on individualized attention to a person’s specific needs. In some ways equity serves as a more human response to justice, one in which the person’s life is valued just as much as the issues at stake.
In an ever polarizing world, the concept of equity shifts the idea of responsibility away from a series of data points and statistics back to the communities, stories, and people that matter around us. This is what we at Sustainable Threads are trying to do, share stories — embrace people. Like the women at Textile Printer's Trust who come together to escape their history of domestic violence. They come to write their new chapters in their own story, and we at ST strive to help them do it.
As you continue writing your next chapters we want to thank you for being a part of our circle of support.
