These journals are crafted from recycled cotton hosiery waste — discarded fabric scraps from cotton garment production that are transformed into durable, beautiful paper. Free from wood pulp and chemical bleaches, the paper offers a smooth yet organic writing surface that reflects both material integrity and thoughtful design.

Each cover is hand screen–printed with carefully designed motifs, adding character and visual depth while maintaining durability. Offered in both hard cover and soft cover formats, these journals are versatile companions for daily note-taking, travel journaling, sketching, recipe keeping, or gratitude practice.

These journals begin as cotton hosiery waste — discarded fabric scraps from cotton garment production — which are reclaimed and transformed into durable, tree-free paper. Artisans blend the cotton scraps with water until the fibers break down into a fine pulp. Azo-free dyes are added at this stage to create soft, natural colors.

Using wire mesh screens, artisans hand-form individual sheets by pulling the screens through vats of pulp, shaping each page by hand. The wet sheets are carefully transferred into stacks layered with fabric, then pressed to remove excess water. Once dried, the sheets are pressed flat to create a smooth yet organically textured writing surface. Some sheets are then hand screen–printed with decorative motifs, while others remain plain to highlight the natural character of the paper.

A separate group of skilled artisans assembles the finished sheets into journals, producing both hard cover and soft cover formats. Throughout the process, water is reused, materials are reclaimed, and waste is minimized — reinforcing the environmental responsibility of the practice.

This work supports low-income artisan communities in Northern India, operating within a Fair Trade framework that prioritizes safe working conditions, fair and steady wages, and long-term livelihood development. Artisans come from diverse caste and social backgrounds and receive ongoing technical and financial support, enabling them to build skills, stability, and independence through craft.

By transforming textile waste into thoughtfully designed paper goods, these journals create meaningful economic opportunity while preserving traditional handcraft skills and reducing environmental impact
