Products, Materials & Makers

Where are your products made? +

Our products are made in India by artisan communities across various geographies, including those with deep textile traditions, as well as rural and low-income artisans and physically challenged individuals and their families. Handcraft offers meaningful livelihood opportunities where mainstream employment is often unavailable due to physical barriers, limited access to training, or social stigma.

Are your products handmade? +

Yes. All Sustainable Threads products are fully handmade using techniques such as handweaving, hand block printing, hand spinning, and hand finishing.

What materials do you use? +

We work with natural, thoughtfully sourced materials including cotton, banana stem fiber, flax linen, silk blends, and organic cotton. When dyes are used, they are non-toxic and azo-free, and in select collections, natural botanical dyes are also used. Our hand block–printed collections are exclusively stamped on kora cotton, which is unbleached and unprocessed.

What is kora cotton? +

Kora cotton is unbleached, unprocessed cotton with a natural off-white finish. We use kora cotton exclusively for our hand block–printed collections because it is not chemically treated and is a cleaner alternative to conventional cotton.

What is banana stem fiber? +

Banana stem fiber is an upcycled material made from the fibrous stem of the banana plant, which is typically cut down after fruit harvest.

Why do handmade products vary slightly? +

Because each piece is made by hand, natural variations in weave, size, and color are part of the product’s character.

Marketing & Retail Support

May I use your product and artisan images? +

Yes. Retailers may use Sustainable Threads product and artisan images to promote products purchased from us.

Do you provide retail support materials? +

Yes. Products include hangtags or packaging that share the artisan story and process. Shelf talkers are typically included with first orders.

Privacy & Data

Do you have a privacy policy? +

Yes. Our Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how it is used, and your rights regarding your data. Full details are available on our Privacy Policy page.
