These bags are created by a women-led cooperative in a drought-prone region of Western India, where textile craft provides essential livelihood opportunities. As member-owners of the enterprise, artisans gain financial independence, skill development, and long-term economic stability.

The process begins with hand block printing cotton fabric using azo-free dyes. Artisans then prepare felt and cotton motifs, which are carefully appliquéd by hand and secured using tanka embroidery—a traditional straight-stitch technique that allows for variation in stitch length and spacing. This embroidery adds both durability and visual rhythm and is carried through onto the straps for a unified, handcrafted finish.

Each bag is hand-sewn and finished with care, reflecting generations of textile knowledge and collaborative making.
