The Flax Line table runners are designed to showcase the beauty of color interplay through structure. Each runner is woven using three hand-dyed yarn colors, carefully arranged across both warp and weft to create nuanced patterns and gentle tonal movement. Weaving with multiple yarn colors is significantly more labor-intensive than single-color weaving, but the result is a fabric with depth, character, and lasting, heirloom appeal.

Flax linen, derived from the flax plant, is one of the strongest natural fibers. Naturally breathable and highly absorbent, it maintains its structure while softening over time, making these runners equally suited for everyday use and elevated entertaining.

These table runners are handwoven by rural and tribal women artisans in Northern India, working in regions where handloom weaving has long been a vital source of livelihood — yet access to stable, fairly paid work remains limited. Many artisans balance farming, household responsibilities, and seasonal labor, making handweaving an essential source of steady, home-based income.

Artisans work on hand-operated looms — the oldest and most sustainable method of textile production — beginning with flax yarns that are dyed using azo-free, low-impact dyes. Managing three yarn colors across both warp and weft requires careful loom setup, precision, and advanced skill. Once weaving begins, adjustments cannot be undone, making each runner a true expression of craftsmanship.

Operating within a Fair Trade framework, this work provides reliable wages, safe working conditions, and the opportunity for artisans to remain within their communities rather than migrate in search of employment.
