Description

These scarves bring together a handwoven cotton base and richly textured surface design. While motifs and color stories vary from piece to piece, each scarf shares the same foundation of handweaving and hand embroidery—resulting in a collection that feels cohesive yet individually expressive.

Designed for comfort and everyday wear, these scarves offer warmth, softness, and visual interest, whether styled casually or given as a meaningful gift.

Origin: Handmade in India

How It's Made

This collection is created by a women-led handicraft enterprise in Western India, located in a drought-prone region where textile work provides vital livelihood opportunities. As member-owners of the cooperative, women gain both financial stability and greater social independence.

The process begins with handwoven cotton fabric, sourced from artisan communities and non-profit groups. Once woven, the fabric is embellished using traditional appliqué techniques, combining block-printed and solid cotton fabrics dyed with azo-free dyes.

Artisans then apply tanka embroidery, a simple straight-stitch technique used with varying stitch lengths to create movement, pattern, and texture. Tanka stitch is often layered over appliqué work and may incorporate mirrors, threads, or beads, giving each scarf depth and individuality. Finished with hand-twisted fringe, every piece reflects hours of skilled, patient handwork.

Natural Variations

Due to the handmade nature of our products and variations in device screens, you may find slight variations in color and/or craftsmanship. Even if from the same dye lot, slight variations in color may occur. This is not a defect, but a unique feature of handmade goods.
