Description

These scarves are made from khadi, a handspun and handwoven fabric prized for its breathability, and natural character. Subtle variations in texture and weave reflect the handmade process, while classic plaid patterns give the scarves a versatile, everyday appeal.

Lightweight yet cozy, they’re designed for easy layering and daily wear—offering comfort, simplicity, and quiet elegance. The scarves will get softer with wash and wear.

Origin: Handmade in India

How It's Made

This collection is crafted by women spinners and weavers who are part of a nonprofit enterprise in Central India dedicated to improving the economic and social well-being of rural artisan communities.

The process begins with raw cotton, which is cleaned and prepared by hand. Artisans then use a charkha, a hand-operated spinning wheel, to spin the cotton fibers into yarn. Once spun, the yarn is wound onto bobbins and set onto manual looms, where skilled weavers use a shuttle to handweave the fabric.

This handspun and handwoven textile—known as khadi—holds deep cultural significance in India. Championed by Mahatma Gandhi during the independence movement, khadi became a symbol of self-reliance, non-violent resistance, and economic empowerment. Today, it continues to represent sustainability, dignity of labor, and enduring craftsmanship.
