Description

This scarf celebrates the beauty of resist-dye and stitch working together. The Shibori process creates soft, organic patterning across the cotton base, while hand embroidery adds definition and movement through nature-inspired motifs.

Each piece is unique—shaped by the hand-tying, folding, dye absorption, and embroidery placement that define the artisan process. Lightweight yet visually rich, this scarg is designed for everyday wear with an artful presence.

Origin: Handmade in India

How It's Made

This scarf is created by an artisan group in Northwest India that brings together weavers, dyers, and embroiderers working collaboratively through a regional trust model. The trust supplies raw materials—yarn, dyes, and fabric—and supports artisans with skill training and quality control, enabling more stable and predictable work.

The process begins with Shibori, a traditional resist-dye technique originating in Japan. Cotton fabric is carefully folded, bound, and tied before dyeing, allowing artisans to control how dye penetrates the cloth. The term Shibori means “to wring, squeeze, and press,” and the technique is highly labor-intensive, producing intricate, organic patterns.

Once dyed and dried, artisans add hand embroidery using a range of regional techniques including Soof, Ari, and Sindi embroidery. Motifs are inspired by nature and rendered in geometric, flowing forms. Each scarf is then finished with hand-fringed edges, completing a piece that reflects multiple layers of skill and collaboration.

Natural Variations
