The Stories in Print collection celebrates hand block printing as both craft and narrative. Each tablecloth begins with kora cotton — cotton left unbleached and unprocessed to preserve the fiber’s natural character and soft off-white tone. This raw canvas allows hand-applied prints to stand out with clarity, warmth, and depth.

Designs range from structured geometrics to softer florals, interpreted through contemporary layouts that feel timeless on the table. Select styles are finished with delicate hand embroidery along the edges, adding an extra layer of texture and detail.

Produced by artisan families across India — including women artisans from displaced communities and workshops with deep roots in block printing — these tablecloths carry forward stories of resilience, skill, and continuity through every printed mark.

The process begins with kora cotton fabric, kept unbleached to retain its natural character. Artisans carve designs into wooden blocks, creating one block for each motif or color. Dyes are carefully applied to the blocks and pressed firmly onto the fabric by hand.

Printing happens one color at a time, with the cloth resting and drying between layers — a slow, deliberate process that ensures clarity, alignment, and depth of pattern. Each tablecloth requires dozens of individual impressions, with artisans reapplying dye frequently to maintain consistency.

The artisan groups behind this collection operate within Fair Trade–aligned initiatives that support skill development, fair wages, and long-term livelihood stability. Some makers come from families with generations of block printing knowledge; others are women rebuilding economic independence after displacement. Together, their work sustains a living craft while creating opportunity, dignity, and continuity through handwork.
