Description

The Foundation table runners are handwoven from cotton on traditional, hand-operated looms, using a raised weave technique that creates texture, strength, and visual dimension. The fabric has a substantial yet flexible handfeel, making it well suited for both everyday use and special occasions.

Designed to bring warmth and structure to the table, the runner layers beautifully over wood, stone, or linen surfaces. Its timeless design and neutral character allow it to pair easily with a wide range of dinnerware and table settings, from casual meals to seasonal entertaining.

Each runner is crafted by skilled artisans in Northern India, including physically challenged makers and their families, for whom handweaving provides meaningful, dignified, and home-based employment within a Fair Trade framework.

How It's Made

Artisans begin by preparing cotton yarns, which are then woven by hand on manual looms — one of the oldest and most intricate forms of textile production. Through a meticulous process of aligning warp and weft, two yarn colors are interlinked to form a raised weave structure that cannot be replicated by machines.

This labor-intensive technique requires patience, precision, and deep skill, resulting in a textile that reflects both craftsmanship and care. The weaving initiative supports inclusive artisan communities by providing training, fair wages, and long-term livelihood opportunities while preserving traditional handloom practices.

Natural Variations

Due to the handmade nature of our products and variations in device screens, you may find slight variations in color and/or craftsmanship. Even if from the same dye lot, slight variations in color may occur. This is not a defect, but a unique feature of handmade goods.
