Origin: Handmade in India

This bag is created by a women-led handicraft enterprise in Western India, based in a drought-prone region where access to stable livelihoods is limited. As member-owners of the cooperative, artisans gain financial independence, skill development, and long-term economic security.

Artisans begin by preparing cotton fabrics dyed or block printed using azo-free dyes. Motifs are then hand-appliquéd onto the base fabric and secured with tanka embroidery, a traditional straight-stitch technique that allows for variation in stitch length and pattern. Tanka stitch is often layered over appliqué work to add texture, rhythm, and durability.

Coconut shell buttons are added as closures, and each bag is finished with a long cotton strap and lined interior—resulting in a functional accessory that reflects generations of textile knowledge and skilled handcraft.
