These bags are created by a women-led cooperative in a drought-prone region of Western India, where access to stable income is limited. As member-owners of the enterprise, artisans gain financial independence, skill training, and long-term economic opportunity.

Artisans work with cotton fabrics dyed or block printed using azo-free dyes, then carefully hand-appliqué motifs onto the base fabric. These are secured using tanka embroidery, a traditional straight-stitch technique that allows artisans to vary stitch length and density for texture and visual interest. In select designs, small mirrors are hand-set and stitched in place.

Each bag is finished with a cotton drawstring closure and a long embroidered strap, resulting in a functional accessory that reflects generations of textile knowledge and collaborative craftsmanship.
