Description

Shamrocks, an ancient symbol considered to be a charm against evil, are beautifully hand-embroidered and appliquéd on this shoulder bag. The three-leafed shamrock would enable people to see evil spirits and escape in time. In fact, in Irish folklore (and many other cultures), the number three is considered very lucky.

Made from100% cotton fabric. Prints on the fabric have been stamped with blocks by hand. Shamrock patterns made from superior, soft cotton are appliqued on. Made in rural parts of India by skilled artisans.

A practical bag with a zipper, it can be used to hold books, laptops and more. It has sturdy shoulder straps and a pocket for carrying items such your cell phone or coin purse.

Created by a women's cooperative from a drought-prone region of western India that has over 600 women members. As member-owners, women gain avenues for financial and social independence.

Available in 2 colors.

A Fair Trade product. Handmade by artisans in India.

How It's Made

A women's cooperative that employs over 600 women from a drought-prone region of western India. crafted this product.

Artisans expertly employ tanka embroidery and appliqué techniques, accentuating the textures, design, and colors of stunning cotton and silk products. They apply simple tanka straight-stitch to create varied patterns including adjusting stitch length. Tanka stitch is also used to overlay appliqué work, mirrors, threads, and beads to a base fabric. Block printed and solid fabrics of various combinations are used for appliqué to give each piece a unique feel and expression. All fabrics used are dyed or block printed with azo-free dyes. The textiles are sourced from a number of different groups; many of which are local artisan communities or non-profits. Some of the fabric is handwoven.
